What the school says...
Westbourne is an exceptional and unique context in which to work, study and play. We want your son or daughter to enjoy a school that is vibrant, exciting, family-like, international and academic. Central to our philosophy is the idea that the individual and their potential are the focus of everything we do.
Established over 100 years ago, we have a proven record of success. Ranked in the top five independent schools in the UK by The Independent newspaper in 2007 for GCSE results, students consistently achieve an average of 12 GCSEs, with 55% being A*-A (average over 14+ years). In 2012, 80% of our International Baccalaureate graduates were accepted into the first choice university, including Cambridge and other Russell Group Universities. Of these, 44% were accepted into either medicine or law. In 2013, 100% of students obtained their diploma, with 50% of those applying achieving a place at a Russell Group university. Scholarships based on academic merit are available.
The ease with which international students integrate into the School means that new students soon fee at home, developing close friendships with 80% UK student body. International students come from all over the world, with over 13 different nationalities represented.
Our boarding students are warmly welcomed into our family-like residence. With a brand new boarding house opened in 2011 and expanded in 2013, it is located a minutes walk from the school. Together with a well established homestay programme, our accommodation choices mean that everyone can find a place to live which suits them.
Located in the beautiful seaside town of Penarth, students enjoy a safe environment but are close enough to cosmopolitan Cardiff to ensure that they are never bored! In line with our principle of developing all-round character, Westbourne students can take part in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. From rowing and sailing at the local marina to more traditional team and individual sports, Westbourne students are encouraged to pursue their own passions. With chess, public speaking, singing, foreign film club and much more, everyone can find something of interest.
Westbourne students go through school enjoying a happy and stimulating place: one in which they feel valued. They leave us not only having fulfilled their personal best in terms of examination results, but also equipped to progress to the next stage with those timeless character traits that mark out truly special individuals: a unique balance of confidence, enthusiasm, leadership and people skills, integrity, compassion, ambition and optimism. ...Read more

This is a thank you to your school, teacher or careers adviser who helped you to get where you are now.
