The Good Schools Guide review of British Home Tutors

Founded and run by Tom Maher MA (economics and philosophy from Trinity) (late 50s), an economics teacher who worked for many years at MPW, where most of his first recruits came from back in 1996. Gentle, charmingly frank, with a lovely, soft, southern Irish tinge to his quietly humorous conversation, he runs BHT from his home. The most humbleOne of the most modest tutor company owners we’ve met  by a long shot – quite somethingrefreshing in an industry not exactly known for its humility. Notable Genuine sense of the responsibility weighs on his shoulders – ‘if a parent rings whose daughter wants to be a medic and needs that all important A in chemistry, we can’t be sending just anyone.’ None of which this is lost on parents: ‘Tom listened, thought hard and came back with a plan – he was always available throughout the year with suggestions, empathy, feedback and wisdom,’ said one.  ‘Could not have been more helpful and efficient.’ ‘Totally reliable, listens and makes an effort to find the best match for your child.’

The Good Schools Guide Education Consultants offer assessments in English, maths and in reasoning. Most schools assess these subjects when considering a child for a place. This is especially important for children coming from different countries with different educational systems. But there can be many reasons for checking a child's progress in these basic skills.
