What the school says

When the children walk into our school, we greet them by name and ask about their recent endeavours. We know the children well; all the staff know them well. Durlston is renowned for its family feel. The children are nurtured, encouraged, supported and challenged to find their own interests and talents and to be the best that they can be. Our staff are able to select and plan teaching and learning opportunities which tap into the unique personalities of each cohort. From academic excellence to extracurricular achievements, our children consistently demonstrate outstanding performance.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

The Durlston Lighthouse is a dedicated department that provides enhanced teaching, learning, and pastoral support. We are committed to help every child navigate their own learning journey and we nurture their social and emotional well-being. The primary goal of the Lighthouse is to ensure that all children, regardless of their abilities or needs, feel integrated into the Durlston Family. We offer guidance, support and a safe haven whenever it is needed. Our enthusiastic team works tirelessly to ensure that each child receives the individualised attention and assistance required to thrive academically and personally.

At the helm of our SEND Department are our experienced Directors of SEND. They have both completed the Masters Level National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO), equipping them with the expertise to lead our team of qualified Learning Assistants effectively. We passionately believe that all children can benefit from the valuable research conducted on how children learn. Durlston incorporates these insights into our teaching methods, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all. By applying these evidence-based practices, excellent teaching for children with SEND is excellent teaching for all children.

Durlston is committed to empowering every pupil. We celebrate their unique strengths, as part of an inclusive community.
