George Hastwell is a Community Special School for pupils with statements of severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. In addition, some pupils may also have hearing or visual impairments, autistic spectrum disorder, emotional/behavioural problems and cerebral palsy. The aim of the school is to provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, taking into account the needs of each individual pupil. The National Curriculum is followed with, where necessary, adaptations to allow maximum participation in classroom activities. The school aims to promote the personal development of all pupils as a preparation for future life. They should acquire, as far as possible, the ability to tolerate and respect other people, as well as an appropriate balance of knowledge, understanding and skills, in an environment which promotes the enjoyment of learning.
