SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Heathlands is an all age (3-16), day and weekly residential, community special school for deaf children who access the National Curriculum through Total Communication. This approach, with its emphasis on language development, speech, sign and use of residual hearing, underpins the ethos of this school and is central to pupil achievement. Ofsted reported that 'Pupils at Heathlands do significantly better than many other pupils in schools for the deaf across the country'.

The school has pioneered successful Inclusion partnerships with both Primary and Secondary schools since 1987. It is also a regional resource centre with pupils from 21 different LEAs besides Herts
