What the school says

Proudly perched above Hampstead High Street, Heathside School Hampstead sits at the heart of one of London’s most beautiful and green neighbourhoods. Surrounded by leafy green spaces with a strong sense of community, this warm and nurturing prep school welcomes girls and boys from nursery through to year 6. It is a place where curiosity is celebrated, individuality is valued, and every child is encouraged to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

At Heathside, childhood is cherished. The school’s friendly, inclusive atmosphere provides a strong sense of happiness from which pupils can grow in confidence. The school’s guiding values – nature, nurture, knowledge – capture its philosophy perfectly and can be felt in every aspect of school life.

The proximity of Hampstead Heath, which is the school’s ‘back garden’, gives Heathside a uniquely outdoorsy character. Pupils head out to the heath several times a week for ‘Heath School sessions’ which focus on a range of subjects from art to PSHE, and English to science. Parents soon learn that wellies and gardening gloves are every bit as essential as pencil cases – and with good reason.

The school is proudly non-selective yet ambitious, with small class sizes allowing teachers to tailor their approach to each child’s needs and learning style. The High Performance Learning framework underpins the curriculum, encouraging pupils to think critically, build resilience and take ownership of their learning. Pupils regularly move on to leading London schools – including UCS, City of London, Channing and South Hampstead High – often securing scholarships along the way.

The arts thrive at Heathside. Music is a central part of school life, with a growing chamber choir, guitar ensemble and vibrant theatrical productions. The introduction of LAMDA lessons has added another dimension, giving even the quietest pupils a voice and the confidence to express themselves. This spirit of creativity and self-belief is championed by the head whose open ‘Head’s Postbox’ invites pupils’ ideas.

Heathside School Hampstead is in every sense a reflection of its surroundings – creative, grounded and full of heart. For families who value individuality, connection and community spirit, it offers an education that blends academic ambition with compassion and joy. Expect muddy boots, confident smiles and children who truly love to learn.
