SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Nightingale School is the secondary provision in Wandsworth for boys identified as having Social, Emotional and Behavioural difficulties, (SEBD). The school has 71 places and is now usually significantly over subscribed. After a very difficult period the school was deemed as no longer requiring special measures in November 2003. The staff pride themselves on an empathic approach and differentiated teaching styles although firm boundaries are set and expectations both academically and behaviourally are high. Many of the pupils have very challenging needs and a number take medication for a diagnosis of ADHD. The school works closely and effectively with external agencies. Nightingale also runs a Community Learning Team that works with pupils who will not attend the school on campus. There is also a separately funded School Support Centre that educates pupils on fixed term exclusions from a number of local mainstream secondary schools. Year 9 SATS results are comparatively good for schools of this type and a range of accreditation, College places and work experiences programmes are being built up in key stage 4.
