SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

At Ormskirk Asmall Primary School our mission statement is: 'Working happily together to ensure opportunity and achievement for all.' The whole ethos of Asmall School reflects that all children irrespective of ability are entitled to full access to a broadly based and balanced curriculum which includes the statutory National Curriculum. The school enhances this with cross curricular issues and links with the wider community. Teachers and teaching assistants have a flexible approach to differentiating each lesson. They may provide additional visual stimuli (objects and pictures) to enhance understanding. The child's method of recording work may be modified, ie enlarged workbooks, or using a word processing program on the computer or some adult scribing. The child may receive some pre- or post-tutoring of class work when withdrawn individually to promote the child's success in class and hence his/her self esteem.

The Asmall School building has been adapted to enable easy access for disabled people. It is a single storey and has ramps to each school entrance. There is a toilet and lifting equipment for physically disabled children. Asmall has a Special Educational Resource Facility for Hearing Impaired children, with a full time qualified and experienced Teacher of the Deaf and Teaching Assistant. Adaptations have been made to classrooms to reduce noise levels. Some classrooms have a Soundfield System and radio hearing aids are provided.
