This is a real alternative in that it is recognised by the Department for Education and by Ofsted as not being a school. Given this, it has freedom over how it operates. It has no classrooms, no formal lessons and no imposed timetable. The College is underpinned by the Self Managed Learning approach that has been used in business and the public sector for 40 years, including by most of the largest companies in the UK. Students are supported by a small caring community to develop their own programmes of work.
