Mexborough School operates an inclusive policy and educates pupils with a wide range of abilities and Special Educational Needs.

The school has around 25 staff dedicated to providing learning support and mentoring for pupils who experience barriers to learning. These are further supported by a strong pastoral team to help pupils at all stages of secondary education.

Numeracy and Literacy lessons are provided by qualified specialist teachers for Special Educational Needs pupils in small group classes and experienced Learning Support Assistants provide in class support for pupils with a range of learning difficulties including Autism, Dyslexia, Discalculia, Dyspraxia and Moderate Learning Difficulties. Support is also available for pupils with physical difficulties including hearing and visual impairment.

Additional specific support is provided for individual pupils via I.T. based systems designed to provide personalised target setting and monitoring. Laptops are available for pupils with writing difficulties and early morning handwriting and reading classes are offered.

A homework club with extensive resources and staff support for pupils experiencing difficulties with completing or organising their homework is available after school 4 days per week.

A safe haven with activities is provided at lunchtimes and break-times for pupils who may experience stress in the general playground environment.

Mentors experienced in counselling pupils with emotional difficulties are available and there are strong links with external agencies to provide specialist help or resources.
