SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

In the school of Foundation Studies there are four courses, which deliver successful teaching and learning to discrete LDD groups and provide progression within those groups. Courses are: STEPS, Moving On, Vocational Skills and Everyday Basics. Students coming on to the programme will range from Pre-Entry to level 1 or 2. The age of students ranges from 16 to 50+. All courses offer tailored learning with an emphasis on life skills and individual achievement. Students attend on a full and part-time basis and carry out topics which include literacy, numeracy, IT, creativity, practical skills, gardening, drama and cookery. There is also a very healthy work experience programme which students access as appropriate. There is a dedicated and skilled staff team in place which includes lecturers, a work-placement officer and Learning Support Assistants to provide the most effective guidance, teaching, learning enrichment and pastoral care.

The STEPS provision is particularly well known and successful in the field of SLDD and has good links with local feeder schools. Students can access this course at age 16 and can remain in the programme for up to four years.
