APS is no doubt strengthened by the resources and expertise of the Abingdon Foundation but retains its own character and independence, helped by the schools being on separate sites. You can’t move for prep schools in south Oxfordshire, so what’s the USP? Tons of facilities and ambition, a thriving senior school and engaging but distinctly unspoilt pupils. Top marks.

Our view
A school that offers everything that bright, busy boys could want without any hint of prep school stuffiness. Pupils we met were engaging, smart, proud of their school. As they whisked us around, we saw wonderful things: year 7s teaching each-other
