It's out with the tartan carpets and old-fashioned uniform and in with an altogether more slick, modern – not to mention more academic – approach. But you can still expect the cheery, family feel, an emphasis on manners and kindness and a school that ‘really gets boys’, as one parent put it.

Mobile phone policy

A clear mobile phone policy is a really important part of modern schooling. This school has provided us with their policy.

Mobile phone policy

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Older pupils may bring a phone to school for safety when travelling independently, but it must be switched off on arrival and handed in for the day. Phones are only returned at the end of the day for communication about collection or transport home. While smartphones are permitted, a basic ‘brick’ phone is recommended wherever possible.

Our view

Housed in a pretty Dutch-style Victorian red-brick house set back from the road, the school was founded in 1993 with just 14 pupils and two teachers for traditional Broomwood families who didn’t want their sons to board from 8. Since 2021, it has

What the school says

We are a multi- award-winning school with a distinctive approach. Wellbeing is paramount, and our boys are taught in a single-sex environment but come together with Broomwood Girls for extracurricular and extension activities. We enjoy some of the best prep school facilities in London and our position opposite Wandsworth Common means we have a wide range of sporting opportunities on our doorstep. Boys are prepared either for 11+ or 13+ entrance to top competitive day and boarding schools.

SEN overview

Broomwood Prep – Boys is a mainstream school. The school may provide support for students with special educational needs as detailed below. If you require more information on conditions the school can support, we encourage you to contact the school directly.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

We provide support teaching from our full time Learning Support teacher for those with mild special needs. A prospective pupil requiring more than one hour's support during the week would probably not be best served by Northcote Lodge. Currently about a sixth of boys receive half an hour or more of support each week. The majority of such boys will be in Years 4 and 5. As they move up the school many find that such help is no longer required.
