We were thrilled to find a school which is ambitious and nurturing in equal measure, feeding neatly into a super senior but standing firmly on its own two feet. A gorgeous start.

Entrance

Intake at 4+ is comprehensive in philosophy, though school is over-subscribed and pre-schoolers are assessed to make sure they are ready. Very humane, ‘You see the potential in every three year-old’, says pre-prep head.


Exit

‘Vast majority’ to senior school (98 per cent in 2022), which is ‘increasingly academically selective’. Families buy into the all-through model, though a few will struggle once they get there and prep will talk to parents about ‘how that’ll feel,

Our view

Set in a spectacular wooded valley, down its own lane, Caterham spreads from pre-prep at one end through prep and into the seniors – a sense of progression as you move up the site. Feels rural and self-contained, despite proximity to the town. Tidy

Set in extensive grounds, Caterham Prep School is an integral part of Caterham School and most pupils progress to the Senior School at age 11, when boarding is also available if neeeded. The School's website will give you more information, but a visit is recommended when the school is in session to see the wide range of educational experiences that are offered.

Caterham Preparatory School is a high achieving, academic school from which most pupils go on to Caterham School, our senior school. The SEN provision we provide depends on a pupil's difficulty. Having been formally diagnosed; it ranges from 1:1 support, through to group withdrawal, through to support within the classroom. SEN support is undertaken by the SENCO and our qualified teachers under the guidance of the SENCO. Nov 09.
