A happy, purposeful place perched high on a hill overlooking Bath, Kingswood Prep ensures its pupils can tuck into a wholesome outdoorsy, unpressurised smorgasbord of academic, sporty and creative pleasures in those golden years before senior school. ‘I want them skipping into school,’ says the head. Entrance

Entry to the prep school is automatic for children who come up from the pre-prep; about two-thirds come through that route. Year 3 hopefuls will do assessments in English, maths and non-verbal reasoning for one of the dozen places on offer. Places

Almost all to the senior school following the same exams in English, maths and non-verbal reasoning plus interview that external applicants will take, many garlanded with scholarships across academia, sport and the arts, both practical and aesthetic.

Our view

Tucked away in the bottom left-hand corner of the Kingwood site since 1995, the prep occupies a stand-out golden Georgian mansion and some eye-catching modern buildings put up on its former walled garden, beyond which extensive grounds enjoy stunning

Our aim is to create a happy, caring community based upon Christian principles in which all individuals can develop respect for themselves and for others. Kingswood Prep School has a limited level of support beyond classroom differentiation, in the form of two dyslexia-trained teachers who withdraw pupils individually or in small groups twice per week. Needs are assessed prior to registration and where necessary a pupil profile is written and their needs addressed. Charges are made in addition to normal school fees for this service.
