Not burdened by history or a fancy Latin motto, this proper country prep school in idyllic surroundings ensures children have fun, stay young, yet are absolutely oven-ready for their next schools. It gives families an alternative to its older, smarter, bigger competitors locally.

Why read our school review?

Unlike other websites, schools can't pay to be included in The Good Schools Guide. This means our review of this school is independent, critical and fair, and written with parents' best interests at heart.

Our view

This is a school which uses conventional approaches that have been found to work. We loved the free flow of the youngest children, from inside their beautifully converted stable block to outside, truly learning through play as they practised fine

What the school says

Our school motto is 'time and space for a full education' and this runs through everything we do here at Perrott Hill. As one would expect, this is delivered from an academic perspective, but it is the ability to enrich the children's lives with a vast number of different activities that explains why Perrott Hill is loved by the children and why the pupils look forward to coming to school and want to learn.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

The Learning Support department at Perrott Hill is a team of professionally trained staff who help to support and develop those children who are identified as having additional learning needs. The team works alongside form tutors, teaching staff and parents to deliver a bespoke programme tailored to the individual, so that each child can be successful and fulfil their ambitions.

Perrott Hill is a school where learning, achievements, attitudes and wellbeing really matter. There is no set curriculum in the Learning Support department, as each child has different needs and goals; the aim of the department is to guide pupils towards independent learning through a graduated response. The awareness of learning diversity is recognised when planning, to ensure all pupils are provided with equal opportunities, and strengths are focused on.

Children may experience learning difficulties at any point during their education. Support is available in class by use of differentiated teaching methods, or through small group or one-to-one intervention. Where appropriate, we use programmes which will include a structured format and are cumulative in their approach, involving multisensory techniques and a number of opportunities for rehearsal. Additional charges apply for Learning Support lessons and strong liaison between parents, form tutors, subject teachers and the child is essential. Please contact the school for further information.
