A small school with a big heart, that ‘offers so much more than academics’. Rowan’s founding motto ‘Hic Feliciter Laboramus’ (Here We Work Happily) seems to hold true 88 years on - girls are clearly happy, not to mention exceptionally polite. There’s a real buzz in the air at Rowan, its broad, holistic approach prepares girls successfully but without undue pressure for entry to leading selective senior schools.

A clear mobile phone policy is a really important part of modern schooling. This school has provided us with their policy.
Mobile phone policy
Rowan Preparatory School discourages pupils from bringing personal mobile technology devices to school. If a pupil needs to bring a mobile device to school, for example if they walk home, parents are asked to notify the school in writing. When a mobile device is brought into school it must be clearly labelled with the pupil’s name. It must remain switched off and given in to the school office on arrival at school. The mobile device must be collected at the end of the school day from the school office and must not be switched on until leaving the site.

In 1936, Katherine Millar opened Rowan Brae with just seven pupils in the leafy village of Claygate, Surrey. In less than 10 years it had expanded to more than 100 pupils and Rowan Hill, the nearby preparatory school for years 3-6 was purchased.
