We've reviewed this school • Unlock to access

A relatively small rural school with a strong traditional curriculum, excellent extra-curricular opportunities and firmly rooted in the values of good behaviour, good citizenship and having a go at everything. This is a school that is getting results and a great deal more right in an unpretentious way. A parent summed things up, telling us, ‘We looked at lots of other schools, most with sixth forms, but they just couldn’t offer us what Ryedale does in terms of good results, great extra-curricular and general happiness.' You can't ask for much more than that.

Why read our school review?

Unlike other websites, schools can't pay to be included in The Good Schools Guide. This means our review of this school is independent, critical and fair, and written with parents' best interests at heart.

Just about all the pupils we spoke to gave the ‘brilliant’ sporting opportunities as one of the reasons they chose to come to Ryedale. Strong teaching, a very good set of fixtures against some prominent sporting schools and the Ryedale can-do spirit

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Ryedale School recognises that within the principles of providing a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, some pupils will require greater levels of support and/or differentiation to maximise their full potential. We endeavour to integrate all pupils as fully as possible into the educational and social life of the school, encouraging them to feel valued and become active members of the school community. We recognise that all staff share the responsibility for Special Educational Needs, and that a teamwork approach will provide the security and balance needed by pupils requiring extra support. Parents are an important part of the picture and will be encouraged to take an active and positive role in the education of their child.
