Since 2023, Ben Tagg, a young and spritely head who joined the school as deputy head in 2022 until the then-head’s retirement which resulted in ‘perhaps a quicker route to headship than I’d planned’. BSc in sports science from Liverpool John Moores;

Three-form entry, with around two-thirds of pupils joining at reception via a play-based assessment – most applicants are offered places. Entry into later years by CAT4 assessments in English, maths and VR and NVR and observations from classroom

Virtually all progress to senior school (no entrance exam but school is upfront about the need for pupils to be attaining suitable CAT4 test scores, which varies by cohort, typically 110 or above). ‘Still a lot less stress than the Trafford

Founded in 1933 in the original headmistress’s house, the Grange moved to its current purpose-built premises in 1996. It’s a modern and leafy site with plenty of outdoor space and first-class facilities, including the fantastic science lab where we
