A truly outstanding school helping pupils to achieve their best through hard work, high aspirations and a culture where ‘opportunities to fly’ are part and parcel of the TPS experience. Pupils and parents are clear that ‘kids can have it all’ here. Worth applying from out of catchment as many pupils come from further afield.

Why read our school review?

Unlike other websites, schools can't pay to be included in The Good Schools Guide. This means our review of this school is independent, critical and fair, and written with parents' best interests at heart.

‘Teaching is a given; it’s the stuff around the edges that makes TPS special,’ said a parent. Everyone we spoke to agreed that the vast extracurricular opportunities were ‘something else’ – including opportunities to learn to sail, scuba dive and

Sport

Lots of it, and ‘we’re good at it too’, say pupils. But it’s not just the sporty kids who get involved, with parents saying ‘it’s very inclusive’. ‘The effort they put into taking pupils to fixtures is phenomenal,’ we also heard. ‘I don’t think

Ethos & heritage

Founded in 1958 with 400 pupils, TPS has since tripled in size but remains the only state-funded secondary school in Petersfield. It was academised in 2011 and joined the Bohunt Education Trust (BET) in 2016 – but ‘retains its own identity’,

Pastoral care, inclusivity & discipline

Pastoral care is a strength here – delivered by tutors (around 26 pupils in a tutor group) and progress leaders (one academic and one pastoral for each year group). Pupils told us about ‘safe space classrooms’ that are open and staffed at all times
