What the school says

The White House Prep School has been established as a leading independent co-educational day prep school for 40 years. Situated in Clapham Park, five minutes from Clapham Common, in a beautiful Grade II listed Victorian house, we cater for children from 3-11 years old.

In keeping with our ethos of bringing out the best in each and every child, we keep the school small and personal. Our class sizes don't go above 18 pupils, with two forms per year group. We make sure that every child - from the beginning of their time with us - feels valued and cared for, with a special part to play in the everyday life of the school.

At The White House, every child is nurtured and stretched to be their ‘best self’ through learning in a stimulating and happy environment. The White House seamlessly blends an enriching and well-thought-out academic curriculum, with a multitude of extracurricular events and traditional manners and values. Our children thrive and flourish through experiential learning, school trips, enriching extracurricular activities set alongside the rigours of a stimulating curriculum.

Reading is the bedrock of everything we do and so is creative thinking and writing. However, we are forward thinking and innovative having introduced ‘enterprise’, ‘nurture’ and ‘choice’ as part of the ‘super curriculum’ which provides a real diversity of experience for the children.

We major in public speaking, and oracy is a key skill children learn. Performances make it possible for as many children as possible to have this opportunity – every child performs in our major celebrations such as our school play, nativity and harvest festival - and musical recitals are plentiful. The children gain so much confidence from these experiences which makes them hungry for more. The end result, which you can see on any visit to the school, is confident, eloquent, interesting and happy young learners who have a natural curiosity and hunger to learn and grow.

Our academic programme culminates with our 11-plus process which sees our boys and girls confident and bursting to join the most prestigious senior schools in London and the home counties.
