What the school says

Tower House is an exceptional, non-selective prep school well known for its nurturing ethos and its legacy of developing outstanding boys that are happy, kind and curious about the world around them.

Our school is small and personal. Limited class sizes and single form entry leads to a unique, nurturing and incredibly friendly environment where every boy is valued and the whole community knows and supports each other.

We focus on the individual. We pride ourselves on finding opportunities for every boy. No child gets left behind in or out of the classroom and we are totally committed to supporting each boy to achieve their best, nurture their character and celebrate where their passions lie. As a result, our boys want to be part of everything. Whether it be sports teams, musical ensembles or our famous drama productions, pupils are enthusiastic because they know they are valued and have an important contribution to make.

Great emphasis is placed on the development of each boy’s individual character and confidence from an early age – encouraging resilience, humility and kindness for others. This happens alongside a fun and forward-looking learning environment. Our highly skilled and specialist staff take enormous pride and care in developing the characters of our pupils from a young age, ensuring that, as well as academic strength, the ‘soft skills’ of confidence, empathy and resilience results in young men that are happy and well prepared for the demands of senior school and beyond.

We have strong links to the Old Vicarage School. We are proud that our close collaboration with OVS in Richmond enables our boys to work and socialise with girls as they grow up, leading to a healthy understanding of how positive and happy relationships are formed, whilst also ensuring that our boys are challenged with different perspectives. For parents with children at both schools, we also work hard to ensure that all term dates and key events are organised in parallel to support our families. Tower House and Old Vicarage are close friends sharing the best of both worlds for our pupils and their families.

We are proud of our outstanding academic record. Our staff work hard to support all our boys and their families during the application process to a wide range of senior schools across the country, carefully chosen to suit their academic and extracurricular strengths. Our vast expertise ensures that every boy leaves Tower House to join a school that will challenge, inspire and excite them. We also identify boys who show exceptional promise in particular areas of school life and support them through a specific programme in preparation for scholarship assessments.

Tower House is truly independent, and we are extremely proud to be a not-for-profit charitable trust. Every decision we make is for the benefit of the boys in the school and their families – an increasingly rare privilege.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

At Tower House we aim to ensure that all our staff have a thorough understanding of the educational differences of all our pupils and that the boys have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. We have an experienced SENCO who is also a specialist teacher for dyslexia and monitors the overall provision and support for pupils we are able to offer, as well as offering more specialist teaching for those who require it. Boys identified as in need of additional support are taught either 1:1, in small groups or in the classroom. These lessons take place within the school day with touch typing lessons after school for all those who wish to attend.
