Entrance

Non-selective academically, no assessments. Entry into juniors at age 4+ and into seniors at 11+, involving meeting the head, a tour, taster day, reference and reports from current school as appropriate. Provided the child is at a suitable level,

Around 80 per cent of juniors normally stay on into seniors, although recently this has dropped to 50 per cent, mainly to state schools due to VAT. A few trickle away before GCSEs, but not significant numbers and no clear patterns. Year 11s progress

The location presents massive challenges for sport, but just a 15-minute drive away are off-site facilities at Sheffield and Hallam unis, English Institute of Sport and King Edward’s swimming pool - far better than many schools could aspire to.

Established in 1885, although details a little vague as head from 1930-1944 burnt records, fearing they might fall into Hitler’s hands and, clearly, sway the war.

All children are tested on entry to the school. In Y2-Y4 small groups of children are taken out on a daily basis to improve areas of weakness. In the upper school small groups are withdrawn for extra support with literacy and numeracy. In the senior school pupils are withdrawn for support in literacy, maths and study skills. Children also meet in small groups to improve visual, spatial and motor skills through games and activities. Specialist Dyslexia support is available from Mrs Reaney and Mrs Hulley.
