Since September 2022, Deryn Lavell. Previously head of Saltus Grammar School Bermuda for eight years and before that set up and was principal of a K-G12 school in Abu Dhabi. Has also taught extensively in Canada after gaining a degree in education


Entrance

Incoming students must sit SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test). The school acknowledges this is hard and, with just 28 places for over 100 applicants in grade 8, very competitive. Maximum of 10 spaces available in grades 9 and 11, with no spaces


Exit

In 2025, most students stayed in Canada, with the most popular university destination being McGill University followed by University of British Columbia, Queen's University, Huron University and University of Toronto. Also students to the USA


Latest results

Over 80 per cent of students take AP classes in one or more subjects, gaining results well over the average (94 per cent of grades were scored level 4 or 5). One student received the AP Capstone Diploma.

Learning support & SEN

The school does not offer SEN support per se although the learning strategies department supports students with individual education programmes. Open to the whole school from 7.30am (before school hours), at lunch time and at 4.30pm. A dedicated time

Arts & extracurricular

The art room is a bright, white double-heighted room with a mezzanine level, where fantastic pieces of art are displayed from ceiling and walls. The 350-seated theatre, located on the ground floor, plays host to school productions such as The Curious


Sport

Yorkies transform into Tigers and achieve many successes on both on the sports field, in the pool and on the slopes. Nestled between the junior and the senior buildings is a full sized astroturf pitch where the Tigers play grass hockey, basketball


Ethos & heritage

In 1932, seven forward-thinking women had a vision, believing that great things would happen if you educated women. They also believed that women are better together, supported by each other, and so they created York House.

Pastoral care, inclusivity & discipline

Every student is part of TAG, Teacher Advisory Group, where nine students and one teacher meet each day for 10 minutes offering support to students in grade 8-12 with schoolwork and assignments. Such is the bond, we heard, that TAG groups even stay
