What The Good Schools Guide says..
Informal but not alternative – let’s call it progressive-light. Small and personal – ‘It means we get more opportunities than we would at a big school,’ enthused our pupil guide. ‘We like the ethos and the morals,’ said a parent. ‘The school gives them a rounded approach to education and to life.' A bit of a mystery parcel locally. Parents we spoke to recalled being puzzled when they first encountered…

What the school says...
Box Hill School is a co-educational day, weekly and full boarding school for girls and boys aged 11-18. We are proud to be a founding member of Round Square, a global network of schools that share a passion for learning through experience and character education. Formed in 1966, it bases its educational philosophy on the teachings of educationalist Kurt Hahn. The Round Square approach doesn’t just focus on what is taught but rather how learning takes place. We follow this philosophy and live by its IDEALS of Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service.
This ethos of holistic education develops life-long skills as well as academic success. We see this in our students as they develop into confident, resilient and well-rounded young men and women.
Excellent pastoral care is intrinsic to everything we do and our commitment to the wellbeing of students is very strong. We offer a vast array of activities which are timetabled into the school day, students can choose from over 50 options each term and are encouraged to try new things.
Our focus is on achieving the best academic outcome for each student and ensuring each student fulfils their full potential. In the sixth form we offer both the A Level and International Baccalaureate programmes. We work closely with our families and provide guidance and support to help with decisions about further education choices. ...Read more

Special Education Needs
Box Hill School has a long tradition of supporting pupils with specific learning difficulties. We offer targeted 1:1 tuition on site by withdrawing pupils from lessons on a rotation. Learning support sessions last 55 minutes. Most pupils who receive support attend for one lesson a week with a specialist teacher for literacy, study skills or maths. Zones of regulation and speech and language therapy are also offered. The department comprises a special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCo), a deputy SENCo and five specialist teachers. Our speech and language therapist provides one-to-one therapy and three learning support assistants offer in-class support across the curriculum in Years 7 to 11. The department is located in a quiet area of the school campus. Pupil monitoring and liaison between the specialist teachers and all members of the teaching and pastoral staff provide a relaxed and effective working environment in which pupils are supported to achieve their potential.
