All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Head of prep since 2019, Ben Noble, previously head of the junior school at Millfield. He is having a discernible effect on the school’s appeal, with intake up 40 per cent since taking over. Educated at Colyton Grammar, studied psychology at Hertford before jumping between careers in business, politics (including a role as elected councillor for Exeter City Council) and recruitment. It was over an evening conversation with his wife about how much pleasure he got out of coaching cricket (himself a county player) that the penny dropped and he enrolled in a SCITT course at Plymouth University to become a teacher.
