What The Good Schools Guide says..
Arrival here holds a wow factor, the much-loved granite manor house sitting between Dartmoor and the sea at the end of a long driveway with an arching double-sided staircase and soaring pillars, reminiscent of a period drama backdrop. Benjamin Franklin’s famous quote, ‘Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn,’ sprang to mind as we sat in on lessons. From year 2 pupils walking around the classroom trying to identify and explain artefacts used by Florence Nightingale to year 12 economics students delivering…

What the school says...
Everyone who visits Stover School - pupils, parents, staff and guests - recognise that this is a very special place. Perhaps it is our location, in the foothills of Dartmoor, in glorious Devon countryside, just a few miles from the sea, which makes Stover unique. We are a close and warm community, all working towards one goal, the full realisation of our children’s talents, from the early years, right through to young adulthood.
Excellence in teaching, nurturing and encouragement of the pupils lie at the heart of all we do. As a Christian school, we teach boys and girls about the value of moral standards, respect and good standards of behaviour. Our curriculum is at the cutting edge of educational practice; it embraces our research-based learning pedagogy that grows creativity, flexibility, problem-solving, communication, team dynamics and other essential life skills. As a relatively small school we know every pupil; their needs, strengths and learning styles, and this fuels each pupil’s achievements at the school and beyond.
We aim to ensure that every child who joins us enjoys their experience at Stover and looks back on their school days with a sense of pride in their achievements and great affection. We hope pupils leave us with a healthy sense of self-belief and the qualifications that skills that will enable them to take on new challenges, achieve the best they are capable of and grasp new opportunities.
As a Day and Boarding School for boys and girls, we are always open and here to welcome visitors. Please take the opportunity to discover for yourself what we mean by a Stover Education. ...Read more

Since 2014, Richard Notman, previously head at Cundall Manor School, Yorkshire. One of life’s enthusiasts. Fast talking, driven and empathetic, he speaks of wanting to deliver ‘a bespoke education that takes full advantage of our 64-acre classroom’ and of being committed ‘not to shaping your child but recognising, rewarding and enhancing their unique idiosyncrasies and abilities’. Justifiably proud of the 50 per cent increase in pupil numbers since he took over, including a 27 per cent increase during the pandemic.
Following his degree in accountancy from Birmingham, he initially worked in finance. PGCE from Manchester led to eight years teaching in inner-city state comprehensives before moving to the independent sector. Senior teacher and head of maths at Alderley Edge School for Girls, then five years as deputy head at Longridge Towers, Northumberland. Recently completed an MBA...
