What the school says...

West Lakes Academy in Egremont, Cumbria opened in September 2008.

Our vision is to succeed in Changing Lives through Learning by providing the very best possible educational opportunities for young people in West Cumbria. We have extremely high hopes for all of our students and our highly skilled and enthusiastic members of staff encourage children to have high ambitions and to work hard to achieve these.

After four years of planning and construction we are now settled in our brilliant new 26m building. Students and staff now benefit from fantastic facilities, outstanding IT resources, a 300k Engineering Facility and a Performing and Expressive Arts Suite. All this makes West Lakes Academy one of the best possible places in which to study. Our excellent environment helps keep motivation and morale high and allows us to deliver modern approaches to learning using the latest technologies.

As an Academy, we are independently governed but state funded and free to all children. We are subject to OFSTED inspections and work with the Local Education Authority in relation to issues such as admissions. We are sponsored by two of the most important energy organisations in the UK and two of Cumbrias largest employers; The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Sellafield Ltd. They provide invaluable resources and industry support to our specialism in Science. We also receive excellent higher education expertise from our education partner, the University of Central Lancashire.

This year we celebrated outstanding A Level results with a 100 per cent pass rate, 214 APS per entry and 970 APS per student. Our GCSE results were also our best ever with 59 per cent gaining five A* to C grades including English and maths and 99 per cent gaining A* to C in five or more subjects.

The hard work of our pupils and the dedication of our skilled members of staff enable us to provide students with the education they need for a successful and happy future.

Thank the school

"Say thank you" allows you to send a quick note of appreciation to the school in general or to an individual teacher.

This is a thank you to your school, teacher or careers adviser who helped you to get where you are now.

Please fill in the fields below, which we will transform into a letter of thanks from you to them.

Leave blank if you want to thank the school as a whole

Years you were there

Can be left blank but, if you can, think of a few words that will bring a smile.
