What the school says...
Saint Cecilia’s is a vibrant over-subscribed Church of England secondary school with a distinctive Christian ethos for pupils aged 11-18 years. The school first opened in September 2003 on the site of Wandsworth Boys School and has gone from strength to strength over the last decade – it currently has over 900 pupils on roll, including approximately 200 students in its thriving Sixth Form.
As one of the top 90 non-selective state funded schools in England showing sustained improvement in attainment, Saint Cecilia’s is renowned for its specialist teaching in Maths and Music. In 2015, pupils in Year 11 once again performed extremely well. Sixty per cent of Music GCSE grades awarded were A*-A and the school is rapidly becoming the school of choice in the area for talented young musicians. Saint Cecilia’s also has an excellent reputation at A level. In 2015 Eighty four per cent of students achieved A*-C grades. More than half (55%) of grades awarded were A*-B with nearly a quarter graded A*-A. More than three quarters (76%) of students notched up A*-B grades in Maths. Every year, a high percentage of students are offered places at prestigious Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
The school has strong rugby, netball, hockey, athletics and football teams which successfully take part in weekly local and regional competitions. Saint Cecilia’s also has links with the Wimbledon Tennis Championships and each year, a number of pupils are selected as ball boys or girls during the summer tournament.
The school has a strong pastoral system – pupils are placed in small mentor groups and mentors play a crucial role in the social and academic development of each child.
Pupils are offered a wide range of extra-curricular trips including language exchange programmes to France and Spain. Pupils take part in many school trips in UK and abroad, including sky trips to Austria, Music tours to Belgium and Italy, visits to Barcelona, Paris, Iceland, Geography fieldtrips and many more. The school has also many links with top universities to provide students with first-hand experience of higher education.
The school is conveniently located in Sutherland Grove, SW18 5JR in the residential area of Southfields, between Wimbledon and Putney. The nearest underground station is Southfields (District line – zone 3) which is only 5 minutes from Wimbledon station and 16 minutes from Earls Court. The area is also well served by numerous bus connections to Clapham Junction and Richmond. ...Read more
