What The Good Schools Guide says..
Parents say teaching and learning has ‘pace and drive’. ‘It can be quite a shock if you’re coming from a state school.’ Still, many do, and find they soon catch up. Staff get special training in metacognitive skills and the children too are taught the language of ‘thinking about thinking’ – planning, mental scripting, self-monitoring etc. Children are proud of their nurture room where sand, art and talking therapies are available. ‘It’s where you go with your worries,’ summed up our guides, who added that, ‘It’s also easy to talk to your class teachers.’ Music takes place in senior school. Here, there’s an instrument-packed classroom where our guides told us they’d been learning about...

What The Good Schools Guide says
Head
Since September 2024 Catherin Jeffcoat, previously deputy head academic.
Entrance
As its name suggests, Bablake and King Henry VIII Pre-prep (about eight minutes’ drive away) is the biggest feeder to both schools. All three are part of the same foundation. Automatic entry from there into year 2 at King Henry’s and into year 3 at Bablake, making up the vast majority of the cohort in the latter (all but one student in year 3 in 2023). Plenty join later – around 20-ish in any single academic year – right across the year groups, plus another 10-15 joining mid-year at various stages. Entry via taster day with assessments in English and maths. Two or three classes per year group, with maximum of 24 pupils per class, though it’s often nearer 20.
