What the school says...
Durlston is an incredibly happy school with a positive, nurturing atmosphere. Children at Durlston make exceptional progress in their learning and have a huge amount of fun doing so.
Learning in Durlston Pre-Prep is vibrant, interactive and fun. Small class sizes with high adult ratios ensure that every child is nurtured - socially and academically.
In Middle Prep children are encouraged to participate in the range of new and exciting experiences. Whether your child has a natural flair for sailing, sewing, saxophone or science, Durlston will seek out the aspect of learning that really makes him or her ‘tick’.
For the older pupils, Durlston provides a supportive but challenging learning environment. With small class sizes and a ‘family feel’ the children enjoy being part of a community where they feel valued as they develop in to young adults. The quality of the relationships between staff and children is what makes Durlston such a very special place to learn and grow- every child is truly known. Durlston children are treated as individuals and are welcomed, challenged, motivated and supported in all that they do. ...Read more

Special Education Needs
The Durlston Lighthouse is a dedicated department that provides enhanced teaching, learning, and pastoral support. We are committed to help every child navigate their own learning journey and we nurture their social and emotional well-being. The primary goal of the Lighthouse is to ensure that all children, regardless of their abilities or needs, feel integrated into the Durlston Family. We offer guidance, support and a safe haven whenever it is needed. Our enthusiastic team works tirelessly to ensure that each child receives the individualised attention and assistance required to thrive academically and personally. At the helm of our SEND Department are our experienced Directors of SEND. They have both completed the Masters Level National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO), equipping them with the expertise to lead our team of qualified Learning Assistants effectively. We passionately believe that all children can benefit from the valuable research conducted on how children learn. Durlston incorporates these insights into our teaching methods, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all. By applying these evidence-based practices, excellent teaching for children with SEND is excellent teaching for all children. Durlston is committed to empowering every pupil. We celebrate their unique strengths, as part of an inclusive community.
