Teaching is based on the national curriculum and is topic-based and multi-sensory for all subjects. The great fire of London most recently, with pupils learning about it in history, writing about it in English, then making their own houses ready to burn (supervised by firefighters). The theme was Beijing in a year 2 class – part of a bigger ‘land of the dragon’ project. ‘It will take us all the way to China, then all the way back to Wales,’ enthused the teacher to her mesmerised charges all kneeling on the carpet. Since September 2023, Abby Matthews, who began her Howell's adventure 15 years ago, since when she has held roles including head of KS2 and year 6 class teacher. She has two daughters, both at Howell's. Their favourite family adventures include mountain walking, camping and bodyboarding on the weekends.
