During his break – when he and his wife Jo remained involved in the school - he did a master’s degree (his second) in international education and development at Sussex University. He also founded a low-cost primary school in Uganda (Radnor Junior School, Semuto) and is a governor at two local primary schools. As a qualified mountain leader, he leads the gold DofE award at Radnor. ‘Working in education for over 20 years, the thing I most love about schools is every child’s potential,’ he says. ‘They are like sponges, with an insatiable thirst not just for knowledge but also for values and character.’
