Pupils head off to a wide range of ‘academically aspirational’ schools – 19 of them in the last two years alone. Charterhouse is a firm favourite for around a third, largely by virtue of proximity, but head at pains to stress Aldro is not a feeder

Boarders

Boarding on a flexible basis, with a new programme for full boarders including a cultural programme. Boys only until recently but now extended to girls. Seen as an important part of the ‘prep’ experience and fundamental to the school’s ‘homely’ feel.

Mobile phone policy

A clear mobile phone policy is a really important part of modern schooling. This school has provided us with their policy.

Mobile phone policy

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Day pupils should not bring mobile phones to school, but if there is an exceptional circumstance which requires them to have one, it should be handed in to their Form Tutor or Matron for safe keeping during the day. Day pupils may use the telephone in the School Office to call home, if necessary. Boarders must leave their phones or other electronic devices in the boxes at the School Office on arrival. They can be collected at the end of the day with permission from the Housemaster or Housemistress. Boarders are able to access their phones from Matron’s Room to call home in the evenings during specific times, after which they are returned for safekeeping. Children who are boarding over the weekend may use their phones on Saturday evening and during the day on Sunday. Pupils must sign the ‘Mobile Device Policy’ explaining acceptable use.

Despite its tranquil location deep in the Surrey countryside, Aldro is anything but sleepy. An education here is full of pace and purpose. The school day is lengthy finishing at 6pm for years 7 and 8, although Saturday morning lessons – once a

SEN overview

Aldro is a mainstream school. The school may provide support for students with special educational needs as detailed below. If you require more information on conditions the school can support, we encourage you to contact the school directly.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Aldro accepts pupils with mild SEND needs. It has a well-resourced learning support department situated within the main school building. Most of our support is for pupils with mild specific difficulties with written language although we do support some pupils with mild communication and sensory difficulties. Support is either within a small group setting or an individual basis at additional cost. A bespoke learning programme is designed for pupil's having individual lessons, to target and address areas of difficulty and to boost self-esteem and confidence.

At Aldro we strive to ensure that every pupil reaches their full potential, and it is our aim to identify children with any special educational need as early as possible in their time at the school. Teaching staff are responsible for liaising with the learning support department and reporting any difficulties a pupil may be experiencing in the classroom. Following discussion between the form tutor or subject teacher and the head of learning support, a plan of action will be decided.
