Bristol Grammar School was founded by Royal Charter for ‘the teaching of good manners and literature’. This remains the school’s ethos, albeit now with a few more subjects on the timetable! One parent put it well: ‘The message to the children is that they have been given a great brain, and they can do something great with it in the world.’ A school that offers a lively, inspiring start for children with sights set on the senior school right next door – just the place for enquiring minds.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Bristol Grammar School welcomes young people with high academic ability and values individuality. We actively promote and celebrate neurodiversity and acknowledge that some children, due to a specific learning difficulty or disability, may require additional support. We have many pupils with a variety of learning needs such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, developmental coordination disorder, ADHD and autism and we have experience of supporting pupils with hearing and/or visual impairments. Most of our SEND pupils are supported within the classroom with expert teaching and via their learning support plans. We offer additional support for a number of our children including adapted and additional resources, small group support and one-to-one support. Our learning support coordinator works alongside subject teachers and our team of English and maths specialist teaching assistants and we have ELSAs and school counsellors who also offer pastoral support.
