Academically selective. Main entry points are at year 3 or year 5 (where bar is set a bit higher, says school) by means of assessments in English, maths and non-verbal reasoning, plus interview with the head, held as part of a whole morning of

Exit
Almost without exception to the senior school by means of competitive entry. The parents of any boy unlikely to make it will have been warned well in advance. One lesson a week in year 6 is set aside for entrance exam prep; tutoring neither common

Money matters
Fees at the reasonable end of local offerings but do not include lunch. Wraparound care from 7.45am to 5.00pm is covered except for breakfast, plus a modest charge for boys who stay until 6.00pm. Secondhand uniform is available from a shop in school

Our view
Founded only in 2007 and tucked away behind a jolly yellow door in what was a private house up a steep Clifton sidestreet – devilish hard to find – the junior school has firmly established itself as the little brother of the illustrious senior
