d’Overbroeck’s relaxed culture is based on mutual respect and this underpins everything. Small class sizes, individual approach and, most of all, strong and trusting relationships uphold academic rigour while students feel valued, stay engaged and enjoy school. It’s a far cry from your traditional public school with ancient traditions, stuffy uniforms and hierarchical structures. And that’s exactly what the d’Overbroeck’s community love about it. One parent told us, ‘We know it’s special because although our children are each very different, they’ve all blossomed here. We wouldn’t have changed a thing.’

Founded in 1977 as a sixth form college by Malcolm van Biervliet d’Overbroeck, who was a popular head of languages until his retirement in 2007. Point of interest: d’Overbroeck is a Flemish word and means ‘over-breeches’ – one of the stranger school


Pastoral care, inclusivity & discipline

We have considerable experience over the years of teaching students with dyslexia and other mild learning difficulties, and we have a strong track record of success in this area. Our small classes, flexible teaching methods and strong focus on meeting individual needs makes this a positive, confidence-building environment with a clear emphasis on identifying strengths and building on them.

Students quickly realise that we are always ready to understand and address their particular needs and to help them find strategies that work for them - without in any way singling them out or making them feel self-conscious.
