It turns out that there are more Europhiles in south Oxfordshire than we realised; and they’ve taken refuge here at Europa, a rather idyllic community where flags-of-the-world bunting and croissants in the canteen ensure that everybody feels at home. Brexit Britain is not an easy landscape and funding challenges are real, but that makes the work they’re doing here all the more admirable, keeping languages alive when they’re dying elsewhere and providing an alternative curriculum for those that seek it. It’s not the easiest or most user-friendly answer to your child’s schooling, but for those that see the benefits it’s a dream.

Teaching & learning

A bilingual IB state school? ‘¡Maravilloso!’ we hear you cry, ‘Fantastisch!’ It’s indeed a very rare beast. IB curriculum throughout secondary – nobody does GCSEs or A levels here because they follow the Middle Year Programme (MYP) from years 7 to 11

Money matters

Bilingual IB system is not straightforward to run and the school has suffered massive upheaval since Brexit, in part due to the loss of its European Commission funding. School currently suggests a voluntary donation of £365 per year.

What the school says

Europa School UK is a unique, welcoming state and IB World School, with a rich cultural life. Our multilingual curriculum runs from ages 4 to 18, culminating in the respected IB Diploma. In primary, half the week is taught in English and half in French, German or Spanish. In secondary, the humanities are studied in the second language, fostering academic and cultural depth. Our international programme balances deep study with a broad education. Our strong reputation and excellent academic results mean most students pursue higher education. The most frequent observation made by visitors is how friendly our school is.
