Teaching & learning

Lessons we saw were focused and cheerful – no mean feat during exam season. But class upon class were going over past papers and actively revising with smiling faces, fun quizzes and informal interaction. The vibe throughout was ‘we’re in this

Arts & extracurricular

The school is well kitted-out for the arts, with two large theatre spaces and a mirrored dance studio – all in good use in our visit. Drama popular, with two whole-school performances – most recently a ‘hilarious’ production of One Man, Two Guvnors.

Sport

A proudly sport-obsessed school, with rugby, netball, cricket and hockey at its heart and a dizzying number of fixtures. They do particularly well in rugby and netball and hockey sees 80 per cent of students participating. Football (hugely popular)

Boarders

Flexi boarding has risen swiftly to 40 per cent in recent years. 10 per cent are full boarders (just 3.5 per cent international, a number the head is committed to growing) and the rest board weekly. Day students (40 per cent) are fully integrated

What the school says

The world our students face is unpredictable ... and that’s exciting! It means they can achieve things beyond our imagination. Their success will depend on how widely they understand the world, adapt to change and develop the character to forge their own paths. Founded over a century ago to support orphans whose worlds had narrowed, LWC remains dedicated to widening worlds. We’re not here to repeat the past or cling to prestige, but to nurture tomorrow’s visionaries, giving them the space, support and confidence to seize unseen opportunities and shape their own futures in a wonderfully open and ever-changing world.

What is this?

Facilitating A levels are ones that are commonly needed for entry to leading universities. SEN overview

Lord Wandsworth College is a mainstream school. The school may provide support for students with special educational needs as detailed below. If you require more information on conditions the school can support, we encourage you to contact the school directly.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

The school is sympathetic to pupils with specific learning difficulties and there is a small Special Needs Department that provides support for a range of learning difficulties. The Department aims to help students to become effective learners, while ensuring that awareness of special needs is regularly reviewed so that teachers can meet students' needs across the curriculum. Students are intially identified through prep/primary liaison, screening tests and referrals by subject teachers and concerns expressed by parents. Following further investigation a programme of support is put into action ranging from differentiation within the classroom, to small group-work and 1-1 tuition with a specialist teacher.
Progress is monitored and review sessions organised with pupils, staff and parents where appropriate. For further information you are welcome to contact the Special Needs Coordinator on 01256 860257
