Creativity is fundamental to the school’s philosophy and curriculum. Drama – offered at both GCSE and A level – is notably strong with a large take-up at GCSE, and we watched an eager year 9 class about to improvise on the theme of trust and

What is this?

Facilitating A levels are ones that are commonly needed for entry to leading universities. They are: biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, further mathematics, geography, history, English literature and classical or modern languages. The % of pupils achieving AAB or higher may therefore decrease if many pupils have opted not to take two or more of the facilitating subjects mentioned.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

St James Senior Girls' School draws out and magnifies the unique talents implicit in each individual. The environment enriches the intellectual, emotional and spiritual development of a pupil in an atmosphere which supports unity and is conducive to the happiness of all. Within this environment, pupils with SEN thrive and achieve good results. Pupils come from a wide range of backgrounds and are accepted from both the state and private sector. The school's motto encouraging all pupils to speak the truth, live generously and aim for the best, leads all pupils to find their strengths and develop effective learning strategies to overcome challenges. Quality first teaching, alongside specialist support, ensures excellent outcomes for all with additional needs, including those who are neurodiverse. The school's SEND department, pastoral and wellbeing hub and dedicated pastoral team ensure that each pupil is known in their entirety. This enables all pupils, but especially those with SEN or additional social and emotional needs to feel that their particular circumstances are understood and supported. Pupils, once settled, are then prepared to take risks - they are willing to try new methods and stretch their goals. Experiencing success enables pupils to develop confidence and a sense of self-worth.
