A gentler experience than some of the competition. Some even go so far as to say that ‘the vibe is chillaxed’. Maybe, but only if your son is the right kind of boy; the kind whose act of rebellion is playing chess on the back seat of the bus without wearing a seatbelt.

Mobile phone policy

A clear mobile phone policy is a really important part of modern schooling. This school has provided us with their policy.

Mobile phone policy

Provided by the school and not part of our review

(Older) boys who travel to or from school without parents are permitted to bring mobile phones to school. When arriving at school, boys are encouraged to send their parents a text to say that they have arrived safely. They will then be required to turn off their mobile phone (that is powered off rather than screen off) and put their phone into their locker until the end of the school day. Boys may turn their phones on as they are leaving and again, we encourage them to send parents a text to say that they are on their way.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

At the Under School, learning development provides a range of tailored support to help pupils thrive academically and personally. Children may be invited to join small-group sessions during the school day to reinforce classroom learning. Support includes evidence-based literacy and numeracy programmes, English as an additional language provision, study skills sessions, and social–emotional groups such as the Breakfast & Board Games club. Older pupils benefit from targeted transition support as they prepare for senior school, focusing on independence, resilience, and confidence. All pupils are screened annually in reading and spelling, and those with identified learning differences are supported through personalised plans and targeted interventions, ensuring every pupil can progress with confidence.
