Best nurseries in Brighton and East Sussex
Similar to other regions in England, nurseries in East Sussex typically fall into two categories: day nurseries and preschools. Day nurseries provide fulltime care for children, from babies up to school age, offering flexible hours for working parents. In contrast, preschools often follow school term times and hours and are either standalone or attached to primary school.
Demand for preschools in East Sussex is typically high, so it’s advisable to register your child as early as possible. Additionally, enrolling in a preschool or nursery attached to a private prep school can sometimes give your child the upper hand when you’re trying to secure a reception place. It is worth noting that this will not be the case in state primary schools with a preschool, where there are no guarantees. The best day nurseries, such as the East Sussex chain Bluebells, will also have waiting lists, so it’s important to plan ahead, do your research and register well in advance. Some chains like Busy Bees will even allow you to register your child before they are born. For more tips, check out our guide to choosing a nursery.
