Best tutors in Brighton and East Sussex

Tutoring is rife in many parts of the south east as a result of competition to get into academically selective private and state schools. However, the lack of state grammar schools in East Sussex means that tutoring is less commonplace.

That said, the majority of applicants to grammar schools in areas close to East Sussex, such as Tunbridge Wells, will likely receive private tuition in the run up to the Kent Test. With schools offering some of their places solely according to scores in this 11-plus academic assessment, parents see tutoring as the best way of squeezing every last point out of their child. Other parents may feel that their child could do with a boost to help them succeed for the likes of Brighton College, Brighton Girls’ or some of the more competitive boarding schools further afield.

Online tutoring is offered by the big tutor agencies (mostly based in London and the south east), as well as some smaller ones. Bonas MacFarlane and Keystone Tutors sit at the higher end of the spectrum, with more affordable agencies including Capital TuitionHeadway Tutors now also have a branch in Brighton but predominantly work online like many agencies these days.

Whatever company you choose to go with, be sure to check that the tutor your child is assigned is familiar with the school or schools that you are considering.
