The curriculum, designed to be interactive and fun, involves specialist teachers for art, music, sports and French from the off, while a thematic learning method builds depth of understanding. Children do a whole unit on the plague and the Great Fire of London, for instance, with the ‘wow moment’ (every unit has one) involving burning down the houses they made. Head
Since 2022, Caron Mackay BEd. ‘Very good with the parents and even better with the children, who absolutely love her,’ we heard. ‘Creates a homely feel, but very professional.’ She originally joined the school in 2009 as a class teacher, then held various posts including director of studies and two stints as acting head. A graduate of Glasgow, Mrs Mackay started her teaching career there before moving to London two years later. She is currently on maternity leave, during which time Louisa McCafferty, head of Broomwood Prep Girls’, has stepped into her role.
