Appleford gives you the grounding of a traditional education with the support of expert dyslexia teaching. Sophisticated IT, outdoor activities and a nurturing, small community bolster the vulnerable child’s self-esteem, to be able to thrive and learn at their own pace. As one mum said, ‘He’s gone from a school refuser, to having role models; now he wants to be a teacher'.

SEN statement

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Appleford was founded in 1988 to provide help for dyslexic pupils of average or above-average intelligence. In recent times, the spectrum of difficulties has increased so that our category with the DCSF is now an Approved Residential Special School for Dyslexic pupils and those with associated learning differences.

Admissions policy: Educational Psychologist's report, professional and school reports and Appleford taster visit. An Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) should also be provided if a child has one.
