A clear mobile phone policy is a really important part of modern schooling. This school has provided us with their policy.

Mobile phone policy

Provided by the school and not part of our review

Pupil use of mobile phones is not permitted during the working day (8.30am to 5pm) and devices must be stored in the storage/charging units provided in the boarding/day houses. In certain circumstances, such as an international boarder needing to contact family in their home country, a pupil may be given permission to use their own mobile device during the school day but permission to do so must be sought from their house parent. We recommend that parents purchase basic and inexpensive devices which allow communication when required about pick-up times etc. Possession of mobile phones is permitted on school trips.

What the school says

Dean Close Kingham Hill School is a vibrant, co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 11–18. Set in 105 acres of stunning Cotswold countryside, it offers the perfect environment in which to study, rela, and be active. There are excellent transport connections, with London Heathrow just 90 minutes away, and direct rail links to London (80 minutes) and Oxford (29 minutes), offering a rare blend of rural tranquillity and easy accessibility.

Small by design, the school prioritises a personalised and high-quality educational experience, ensuring every pupil is known, valued and supported throughout their journey.

Educational excellence:

Academic excellence is central to life at Kingham Hill. The majority of sixth form leavers gain places at their first-choice universities, both in the UK (including Oxford and Cambridge) and abroad. Alongside academic lessons, a dynamic co-curricular programme encourages pupils to explore new interests and develop lifelong passions, whether in sport, drama, music or outdoor pursuits. These opportunities build confidence, creativity and resilience.

A close-knit family:

Pupils join one of 11 Houses, each offering a warm, family-style environment. Most boarders are full-time, keeping weekends lively with trips and events. With a diverse and international pupil body, Kingham Hill fosters a nurturing and global environment where young people grow into well-rounded, compassionate and capable leaders, ready to contribute meaningfully and thrive in an ever-changing world.

Dean Close Kingham Hill School is part of the Dean Close Foundation, a growing, vibrant and diverse family of six schools and nine nurseries, uniting around a shared vision and set of values. These spring from the origins of Dean Close School, which was founded in 1886 in memory of Dean Francis Close, rector of Cheltenham and educational philanthropist. The Christian ethos of that original school continues today, and the aim is that every child is given opportunities to flourish, underpinned by the core values of courage, contribution and love.
