Best tutoring in Hertfordshire (West)

< Boarding Schools West Hertfordshire Guide Nurseries >

The lack of true grammar schools in west Herts doesn’t stop local parents turning to tutors in the race to get their children past the 11+ touchline (for some the Bucks 11+, for others the Herts semi-selectives, especially if outside catchment). As for private school entrance exams, it would be considered unusual, if not sheer madness, not to use a tutor, especially for the more selective senior schools. This usually kicks off in year 4 and year 7 respectively (or earlier for the 13+ schools that offer places at 11+ for deferred entry two years later).

West Herts also has a thriving tutor industry for top-up learning, especially for children in state schools. It starts around year 3, takes off around year 6 and then flourishes throughout secondary school, especially coming up to GCSEs and A levels. If you’re considering a tutor, read our article on finding a tutor and check out our tutor agency reviews, especially Watling Tutors, Athena Tuition, Bespoke Tuition, Pegasus Tutors and Griffin and Bell Education. Make sure your tutor is familiar with any schools your child is applying to – or, if it’s for top-up learning, the latest syllabus. Some agencies also provide group tutoring and/or revision courses, and there are also 20+ locations across the county for Kumon maths and English, as well as for Explore Learning maths and English. For SEN tutoring, we recommend SENSational Tutoring and The Golden Circle.
