From finding the right state school for your child to navigating the state school appeals process, our education consultants are here to provide expert consultancy every step of the way.

So how does the consultancy work?

The English state school system can be confusing even to families who live and work in the UK, particularly if they are planning to move to a different area of the country. To families moving to the UK from overseas, the system can feel particularly daunting.

Our specialist in state education, Elizabeth Coatman, has extensive knowledge of all stages of the English education system, from primary to university, which she can help you to understand. She can advise about admissions systems in all 152 local authorities, whether for primary or secondary schools and whether for standard or nonstandard application times. She can also examine the school provision in one or more areas – whether it be grammar, academy, faith, community or free schools.

Elizabeth can consider the admissions policy and catchment area (going by recent allocations data), as well as the achievement data, Ofsted report and other special features of each school, in the context of your particular circumstances. And she can help you to compare schools if you can’t decide on which area to move to. In addition, she can provide support if you are moving back to the UK or arriving here for the first time.

The state school service is designed to be as flexible as possible to meet your individual needs. You can decide between:

Information Call (State Schools Service)

Lasting up to an hour, an information call (state schools service) enables you to ask basic questions about state education; state vs independent schooling; state school admissions arrangements; and how to go about researching schools. We can also provide suggestions of areas that would meet your specifications (eg areas of London, within commuting distance of London, availability of grammar schools); have a discussion about up to four schools that you have notified us about in advance; talk to you about schools with specific specialisms (eg IB, bilingual and boarding); and provide detailed explanations of several issues related to state schools.

In many cases, our senior consultant’s advice will enable you to move forward independently. Or, if you want recommendations of specific state schools, you can upgrade to our heavily discounted classic school search (state schools service). If this happens within one month, the cost of the Information Meeting is deducted.

Classic Schools Search (State Schools Service)

The classic schools search (state schools service) involves an initial conversation of up to an hour with Elizabeth Coatman or another one of our consultants, who will ask you for all the information they need to research into likely schools, available places, catchment areas and admissions criteria. They will then produce a report with specific school recommendations based on your individual needs, along with a follow-up conversation. For children with SEN, please refer to our SEN Service unless their needs are very straightforward.

Information call (state schools service): £220 (inclusive of VAT)

Classic schools search (state schools service): Between £575 - £1,500  (inclusive of VAT) arranged on a personal basis according to your individual requirements, the complexity of your circumstances, and the number of hours and amount of work involved. We can review the agreed fee if requirements change.
