Teaching receives widespread praise. ‘They teach well beyond the syllabus and in the most imaginative way,’ said one parent. Sport has gone from zero to hero under the guidance of the school’s award-winning head of sport. ‘The sport is phenomenal. The children are encouraged in every direction,’ said one mother. The school’s values are ‘honesty, respect, responsibility, equality, kindness, achievement, self-belief, collaboration’, but the head places particular emphasis on ‘kindness and tolerance’ and encouraging every child to find their passion. Since 2021, Kit Thompson BA (Hons), PGCE. From an army background, Mr Thompson attended Downside School as a boarder, followed by a BA in anthropology and retail management at Oxford Brookes. Then he spent four years working in the City, before training as a primary school teacher at the University of Roehampton. His extensive prep-school experience includes time as director of studies at Tockington Manor School in Bristol, deputy head (academic) at Twyford School in Winchester (where his wife still teaches) and, most recently, head of nearby Unicorn School in Kew.
