Other features

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Since 1999, James Hooke. Educated at Hampton (Grammar as it was then), geography degree from Leeds and a PGCE. Thirst for travel and a stint as a broker (including two years in Hong Kong) led, circuitously, to a two-year contract as a geography teacher in Buenos Aires at the age of 30. He returned to the UK, settled down, had a family and was offered a part-time post as a geography teacher at The Harrodian. The school was developing rapidly and before long he was offered the deputy headship. The rest, as they say, is history.

Head has enjoyed watching the school grow from its pre-prep roots when he joined to a school that nurtures young people right through to the end of sixth form. The journey has been ‘fascinating’ and has resulted in ‘a big...
